The No. 10 Western Michigan University hockey team will be taking on CCHA conference opponents Bowling Green in a home and away weekend series that looks to be a relatively challenging match-up.

The main focus of the Broncos’ success will have much to do with how their defense ends play as we saw last game against Notre Dame during last Sunday’s match-up. WMU had been scoreless after the second period with three unanswered goals.

Sophomore goalie Frank Slubowski had made ten saves in the first period of last Sunday’s game and a total of one save during the second period of last Sundays game on the road. The defense also contributed to a tough loss allowing Notre Dame to out shoot the broncos 35-14 by the end of the 3rd period overall.

This weekend can prove to set aside differences between MAC ranks as WMU faces off against the falcons of Bowling Green. The key components to the match up would be on the top WMU play makers, Dane Walters (23) and Dan DeKeyser (5).

What WMU will have to watch for against the falcons is junior captain Cam Wojtala who is coming off his best season of his career in 2011-12, scoring 10 goals and 13 assists for 23 points. The only suspect though that could affect the team is if they can bounce back from that huge lose that Bowling green took against Michigan State 6-1.

The falcons are 1-2-1 in the CCHA conference.

The CCHA conference match ups are just starting to heat up as the Broncos will take on Alaska on their home ice Nov. 16 at Fairbanks, Alaska. The Broncos will attempt to improve on their conference poll standing 1-1-0 and overall season 4-2-0.
