In the two days since an online fundraising effort was created for Breeana Dixit, a Western Michigan University graduate who was killed early Sunday morning, the initial goal of $8,000 was met and exceeded.

As of Feb. 13, $12,567 has been raised by 315 people, and the goal amount has been increased to $15,000 from the original $8,000. The money donated will help cover the costs of the funeral and other associated expenses, according to the GoFundMe website.

Dixit, 22, was struck by a vehicle on Sunday Feb. 10 near the intersection of W. Michigan Ave. and Emajean St.

Since the GoFundMe page was started, numerous messages have been written, along with donations, describing Dixit:

Kim Etter wrote,

“We’ll miss Miss. Bree’s smiling face each and everyday at Appletree. She was amazing with all the kids. My thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends. Life is too short, but hers was taken way too early!”

The Vernon Family wrote,

“Miss Bree played such a positive role in our children’s lives. My daughter would come home with a new hairdo and tell us ” Miss Bree did my hair”. She always went out of her way to say hello to the kids when we dropped them off. Sounds like a little thing but it always made me feel good knowing we were leaving the kids in caring hands! Bree will be missed!”

Amy Jadzinski wrote,

“Even though your time was short on earth you lived life to fullest. You have touched so many lives and will continue to do so as  many will live on through your spirit. You set a beautiful example of how to live with  energy and passion and I will always remember that. Thank you Bree for the life you shared with me and my thoughts and prayers go out to your friends and family. God bless.”

Dixit’s visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday at Kaul Funeral Home, 28433 Jefferson Ave., St. Clair Shores. A second visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethel Lutheran Church, 26400 Little Mack Ave., St. Clair Shores. View her obituary here.
