Aretha Franklin and Bill Cosby to play to local audiences this weekend

It’s a big weekend for the Kalamazoo entertainment scene, as two living legends prepare to take the stage at local venues.

First, Aretha Franklin, the iconic and influential singer known around the world as the “Queen of Soul” will kick off the tour-de-force weekend with a 9 p.m. show this evening at Firekeepers Casino in Battle Creek. The show, expected to feature classic, universally-known hits like “Chain of Fools” and “R.E.S.P.E.C.T.,” is a 21+ event and is sold out. Still, interested parties who missed out on tickets the first time around should watch Stubhub.com, a second-hand ticket sale website where ticket-holders may be selling their seats on a last-minute basis throughout the day.

Folks looking for something to do on Saturday night may have better luck, as legendary comedian and television star Bill Cosby prepares to fill the seats and aisles of Miller Auditorium with riotous laughter.

As of 10:30 a.m. this morning, Miller was reporting that around 200 tickets were still available for the event, but that seats were going quickly in the wake of an extensive Kalamazoo Gazette interview with Cosby himself.

While virtually all of the Main Floor and Grand Tier seats are gone for the Cosby show, there is still a good deal of space available in Miller’s upper balcony.

Bill Cosby’s performance will begin at 8 p.m. this Saturday evening. Tickets are available from the Miller Auditorium box office, online at www.millerauditorium.com or over the phone at 269-387-2300 or 800-228-9858. Ticket prices range from $37.50 and $65.
